Lib Dem Utopia

The Lib Dems annouced their pre, early, draft manifesto. Being cynical I wonder whether they rushed it out to try and clear up the confusion of some of the more junior MP's declaring they wanted to privatise the health service.

In any case my slamming of their policies would be construed as political so instead I will take you to a national daily newspaper that tells it as it clearly is:

"All that was missing was a promise that under Charles Kennedy's benign rule, chocolate truffles would sprout from every tree, and elves and fairies would bring us our breakfast in bed."

  1. Since when was The Telegraph considered to be impartial?

  2. What an amusing article, yet also how scarily true.

The Lib Dem manifesto promises one minute to give free personal care to the elderly and disabled, and then the next minute (as you have written already Kevin), they increase the charges in Kingston. It seems to be one story for the utopia driven national Lib Dems and another for power holding local Lib Dems. People who need personal care here, now either have to pay a large maximum charge or choose to go through the degrading experience of means testing. Where is Ed Davey on all this? He seems very quiet on the whole issue.

  3. Thanks anonymous. First rule is not to shoot the messenger. In fact the Evening Standard, The Times and the Guardian made exactly the same points as the Telegraph. What changed was the rhetoric and style!

I also agree with Shelley that it is a shame that polticians cannot stand and defend what their colleagues do.
