webcameron:

DC launched his new blog today. Have to say it appears to be having some teething trouble and frequently ends in a 404 error. Still they have said it is a beta and will improve, we shall see. I am not sure what the actual target of this is. It currently appears to be a more personalised [...]

New Malden based Travel Agent collapses

This news has recently come in. Apparently the CAA has stepped in to protect those who have holidays and might currently be abroad, having bought their holiday through the brand Mastersun. These things are always heart breaking for those who have yet to have their holidays and I hope that there are not too many affected [...]

John Kramer dies

I have just heard the terrible news that John Kramer, husband of the Lib Dem MP Susan Kramer (Richmond Park) has died. I gather this was after a long illness. This is very sad news and I send my condolences to Susan and wish her happy memories in the months and years to come.

The future of retail in Kingston?

What is happening to retail in Kingston? Kingston is retail; it’s whole infrastructure is there to support retail and it is retail that provides many jobs, not just for residents, but also for those students who come here to study and are resident. But it also provides jobs over a far wider area, just watch the floods [...]

Chamber of Commerce turns its back on business?

This is an interesting article in the Surrey Comet. It is arguing that there should be more room for coffee shops and non-alcoholic alternatives, within Kingston Town centre, open after normal shopping hours. I agree with them. The fountain in the market place has not helped the growth of a “cafe society”, but there is certainly [...]

Tesco Tolworth exhibition

The application is in so now start the attempts to schmooze the people of Tolworth with their plans. You can see my views, based on what I know, here. They have therefore planned an exhibition so you can go and investigate their plans and ask questions. The details are: The public exhibition will take place [...]

The end of brewing in SW London

This is a very good report on the closure of the Young’s brewery in Wandsworth – the end of a brewing era in London. I am not sure how many London breweries remain, (apart from Fuller’s in Chiswick) but it cannot be many. The real romanticism of this story is that the Chairman of Young’s [...]

Berrylands gets to experiment with fortnightly rubbish collections

I have been hearing, over the past ten days, that the Lib Dem Council were going to start experimenting with reversing the rubbish collections so that recycling happened weekly and rubbish was collected fortnightly. The Surrey Comet is now running the story. Still, if I were the rest of the Borough I would not get too [...]

Plans to oust St George as England’s saint

I am linking to this interesting piece by Ellee Seymour. Partly this is because it is interesting, but it is also something I was debating with one of our Councillors last night. I know he will be upset by this turn of events!  Link to Ellee Seymour – MCIPR, PRESS CONSULTANT, JOURNALIST, POLITICAL AND PR [...]

Mandelson admits Labour ‘fissure’

I listened this morning to this interview with Peter Mandelson. If ever the epithet “something of the night” fitted a Labour politician then this was the man. What was remarkable was his frankness, after all this time, of the poisonous way that Brown has felt about the activities of the early 90′s. His standing aside for [...]
