Lib Dem MP wants to scrap school sports and skipping instead
Every now and again the lunacy that is the Lib Dems rises to the surface. This is one of those occasions. A Lib Dem MP has told the House of Commons that school sports should be scrapped. Instead of doing competitive sports they should do "skipping, dancing and games".
What a fool. My son plays rugby on a Saturday morning. He is only 7 but gets a great deal of fun out of it. I have no idea whether he is considered very good and he does not care either. But let's be honest, I don't think he would feel better about himself by doing skipping or dancing.
Still I can't have it both ways with Sandra Gidley, for it was she who admitted that the Lib Dems 2005 general election campaign was "dishonest" because they could never have implemented the "free personal care for the elderly" they claimed in their manifesto. She said their manifesto had been written by people who were less inclined to be open when it comes to spelling out party policy. Local Income Tax is something that falls into this category. What I said about personal care, at the time, is here.

As a school pupil myself, i believe that it is a stupid idea. What about all the boys. Ok so girls have to play football but not forever so why should we have to scrap sports alltogether and skip instead.
some girls like sport!!!! so it will effect mostly everyone.
I agree. Some people do not like sport, in the way they do not like maths, but that doesn not mean you should not do it.
Don't beleive the Tory spin on this. Look up what she said in full in hansard and when it is read in context, what you are implying is wrong. The Tories (and the Daily Mail - one and the same in any case) chose to take a selective quote, out of context, to make a sad political point. Very sad indeed.
I disagree with you. The Lib Dems have a problem with Sandra Gidley as she has a habit of saying what's on her mind without thinking of what it is she is thinking. One presumes this is what happened in both this sport case and the calling of the Lib Dem manifesto "dishonest".
