The Police Chief must go

There is not one man who can have done more to politicise the running of the Police Force than the current commissioner of the Met. The politicisation is clears when the Government themselves leap to his defence.

According to him no one appears to have been at fault over the shooting of an innocent man on the London underground. Whilst it might be that no single person can be held culpable there have clearly been huge failures in the way the police are organised and the way they communicate intelligence to each other - some would argue the 'lack of intelligence'.

For some time I have believed - even against the opinion of my former police officer father - that we should be moving to elected officials at the top of the Police Force. Yes, this current Commissioner has been playing politics, but he was not elected, he was selected by a system that says it is now "muggins turn".
