Charity Chief Executive, Politician, Husband, Father

When could you have expected this to be said?

Can you imagine a time when the Chairman of this body would have ever said something positive about the immigration policy of the Conservatives. That said, David Cameron has been very clear the debate is about population growth and not race.

Trevor Phillips, chair of the Equality and Human Rights
Commission, heralded the Tory leader's speech as a turning point in the immigration debate.

He said Mr Cameron had set himself apart from Tories such as Enoch Powell, famed for his "Rivers of Blood" speech.

  1. I lived in West Bromwich and had family in Smethwick in the fifties and later met Enoch in rather different circumstances(The Duke of Wellington pub in Belgravia)Enoch lived nearby.I still have family there and they feel outnumbered and in an alien world to the one they grew up in.

I found him a very quiet intelligent man who found the outrage to his speech quite puzzling and distressing.

Had "we" collectively debated and thought through a sensible solution all those years ago to this thorny question of a small island and too many people, then we might not be in the shambolic mess we are now.

Now we havent got the remotest idea of how large our population really is or the true birth rate of many immigrants whose culture demands having a large family.

Trevor Phillips can be quite dangerous so any endorsement should be treated with great caution,he is firstly an astute politician with his eye on any great office of state or privelige that may come his way.

Probably got the head of the UN in his sights,so "Dave" needs to play this new alliance most carefully.
