Mealy words on Lib Dem betrayal
You will have seen my post on the dismissal of a Lib Dem MP from the Commons after they refused to accept the authority of the chair. The MP concerned has now decided to give a pretty poor account of himself. He tries to maintain he was "surprised" at being expelled. Well, no on believes that, almost every commentator supports the idea that this was a pre-planned foot stamping. In fact, having been a Conservative Councillor against a Lib Dem opposition I can tell you this is straight out of the Lib Dems how to be petty playbook. I have seen Council meetings where because we are not debating a subject they want to debate they petulantly take their bat and ball home - or down the pub as they did in the cases I recollect. They are not very original.
But the substantive point is that they are betraying all the voters who voted for them at the last election because they now renege on a pledge to hold a referendum on this daft EU treaty which used to be called a constitution. Well, now even the Lib Dems are admitting that they are pretty much the same. The Lib Dem MP says:
I readily concede that some of the changes proposed in the Lisbon Treaty were in the Constitutional Treaty. Both, for example, change the word ecu to euro in the old Treaties. Indeed, 90% of whats (sic) in the Lisbon Treaty can be found in the Constitutional Treaty.
