To boo or not to boo

I have been struck over the last twenty four hours that whenever you turn the radio on the discussions almost invariable turn to the incident last night when one of the England footballers was booed because he committed an error that led to a goal against England.
The view of the footballing glitterati is that the booing was a disgrace. I am afraid I disagree. The simple fact is these footballers are paid an absolute fortune to perform in front of the crowd. If, the player concerned is not able to take a bit of booing because the crowd consider him not to be value for money then frankly he should just put up with it.
If an actor goes on the stage and he is rubbish then he gets booed off The audience at La Scala, Milan, are renowned for the so-called 'loggionisti' who pay the for the cheapest seats and wait for the errors. Even Pavarotti faced cat-calls from the La Scala audience.
so, in my view, Ashley Cole should just get on with it and if he plays badly again I think the crowd is perfectly entitled to boo - after all they paid a lot for the tickets to see him perform.
