Why an election might be close

Two pieces of today's news lead me to wonder that the time is coming when an election might need to be called.

The first bit of news is that over 300 MPs are going to receive letters from the investigative team looking at expenses. If it is really the case that these MPs are going to be found to have done something wrong then I do believe that now is the time to call an election because it would be nearly half our MPs who have let the people down and we need an anti-corruption election.

The second piece of news concerns Gordon Brown’s eyesight. If it is the case that he were to lose his sight then it would  be very difficult for him to continue in this very demanding role. I am not suggesting that a blind man should not be PM but that the personal trauma of such a thing would require a lot for the man to adapt to. All that can be done must be done to try and support him, but his life will be very difficult were his eyesight to fail.
